Week 7: Challenges to Sustainable Development

Welcome back! Today, we learned about challenges to sustainable development. Some examples of the general challenges to sustainable development are inequalities of access to educational resources, food, clean water, and health facilities. The challenges to sustainable development can be seen in three different aspects, social, economic, and environmental.

The challenges to sustainable development from the social aspect can be seen from the issues regarding the public health system, social inclusion, demography and migration issues. Furthermore, examples of challenges to sustainable development from the economic aspect is global poverty, sustainable consumption and production patterns, and sustainable transport system. Lastly, the challenges to sustainable development from the environmental aspects are climate change and clean energy, conservation and management of natural resources.

These challenges are very common and happens all over the world. For example, even in Malaysia, there are still many children who aren't receiving quality education or for some none at all. This is one of the challenges to achieving sustainable development as this relates to SDG 4 which is ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Hence, this is why we should try to eliminate these challenges by addressing this issue and helping out wherever we can.

Together, we can overcome every challenge in the way of sustainable development and move closer to a more just and sustainable global community!
