Today is the first week of classes. On this first week, we were introduced to sustainable development and the concept of sustainability. In order for humans to coexist on Earth for a very long time, sustainability is a shared social objective. Furthermore, sustainability focuses on meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. In order to ensure that natural or physical resources last for a long time, sustainability aims to stop their depletion. The pillars of sustainability is usually broken down to three: environmental, social, and economic. This could also be interpreted as a viable natural environment, sufficient economy, and a nurturing community.
Due to this, we should all try to contribute to the SDGs. Here are some easy ways you can contribute to the SDGs:
- Save electricity by turning off your switches completely when not in use.
- Don't throw away any fruit or snacks you decide you don't want. Donate it to a person in need.
- Take public transportation, bike, or walk to work or to school.
Furthermore, as Muslims, we can see that practicing the SDG goals actually align with many islamic teachings. For example, both Islam and the SDG goals encourages to stop wasting and instead share it with the poor and and the needy. This is why we should practice SDG and continue to educate others about it so that everyone can practice it.
Lets make it happen and lead the world towards sustainability!
